When I was in my final year of school we had a 40 days celebration, before the end of the school year. There was some pigtails or funny hair styles involved and something not unlike a flash mob, but before social media.
I am honestly thankful that we didn’t have social media and camera phones when I was a teenager. Not because I’m old fashioned but because there were some really horrible hairstyles in my past. Curly hair and a ’90s bob did not go down well, I can tell you that. Maybe that’s what comes from trying to fit in when you’re born to stand out.
Social media aside, there are some amazing memories from my teenage years, and luckily we have the ability to forget the less amazing ones. During this time I met some of my closest friends still today. I rediscovered my love of reading. It was the first steps in becoming the person I am today.
Now that I’m spending so much time my myself, it is perhaps also a time of becoming the person I will be after COVID-19, or perhaps unbecoming the parts of me didn’t fit so well with who I want to be.
Be kind. Stay safe.
